The Faculty of Arts, Society, and Business (ASB) brings together world-class expertise in Business, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Creative Arts and Communications, Humanities and Liberal Arts. Our faculty is also home to specialist entities - the Early Start Institute and the Australian Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) - driving unique research, education and engagement in key social and global areas.

Our entities

Early Start

Early Start is focused on the child, their adults and the systems that surround them. The institute is dedicated to improving the lives of children, particularly those in regional and remote Australia. It combines research with community engagement to address disadvantage, advance children's rights, provide fresh perspectives, and inform evidence-based policies and practices.

The institute supports a network of partners, including early childhood education centres and community groups, collaborates with government and industry, and houses the  - an interactive play space that translates research to foster creativity, learning, and social connection.

Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources & Security (ANCORS)

The Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) has an unrivalled reputation for global capacity building in the law of the sea, ocean policy, and maritime security.

Originally established in 1994 as the Centre for Maritime Policy - a collaborative initiative between the University of °µÍø½ûÇø and the Royal Australian Navy - ANCORS provides a wide range of ocean-related expertise and professional experience. We are a leading source of authoritative policy development advice and support services for government agencies, regional and international organisations, and ocean-related industries in Australia, the Indo-Pacific, and beyond.

Need help with your tax? The UOW Tax Clinic offers free, confidential help and advice for eligible individuals and small businesses. Our trained student advisers, supervised by registered tax agents, can guide you through lodging your return or responding to the ATO.

  • Music: Flagship music recording studio and post-production suites.
  • Media: Fully equipped radio studio with broadcast tools and a green screen.
  • Performance: Versatile venues including the 100-seat performance space and black box studio.
  • Visual Arts: Specialised studios supporting a wide range of contemporary practices.
