UOW scholarships recognise and reward students who excel in academics, leadership, community service, and sports. We are also dedicated to supporting students facing financial hardship and other educational challenges

Type Description

Early Admission

Students are automatically considered for these scholarships when they submit an Early Admission application.

Non-school leaver

Non-school leaver scholarships support students commencing University who are not completing Year 12 in 2026.

Equity

Assistance for students experiencing financial hardship and other educational challenges

Community

To support and reward students who engage in the wider community

Community / Equity

Considers both Community and Equity criteria

Corporate

A business or entity supporting students studying specific degrees with links to their field and/or industry

Work Integrated Learning

Industry specific scholarships provided by a partnering organisation with a work experience component

Eligibility 

To be eligible for a UOW Scholarship you must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or the holder of an Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa. Usually, you will be commencing the first year of an undergraduate degree as a full-time student (with no previous enrolment at UOW) unless otherwise advised.

When will I find out if I'm successful?

Some scholarships are awarded based on application only, however others may require an interview. Depending on the scholarship students are generally notified a few months after the closing date but some can be as early as a few weeks.

Illawarra Principal’s Recommendation Scholarship

The Illawarra Principal’s Recommendation Scholarship aims to support and encourage students who attend high school in the °µÍø½ûÇø, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven local government areas to pursue undergraduate study at the University of °µÍø½ûÇø in 2027. The Principal of each school will recommend a student for the scholarship based on demonstrated strengths across UOW’s Key Indicators of Success:

Sutherland Shire Principal's Recommendation Scholarship

The Sutherland Shire Undergraduate Scholarship aims to support and encourage students who attend High School in the Sutherland Shire local government area to pursue undergraduate study at the University of °µÍø½ûÇø in 2027. The Principal of each school will recommend a student for the scholarship based on demonstrated strengths across UOW’s Key Indicators of Success:

The Bega Valley and Eurobodalla Principal's Recommendation Scholarship aims to support and encourage students who attend High School in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla local government area to pursue undergraduate study at the University of °µÍø½ûÇø in 2027. The Principal of each school will recommend a student for the scholarship based on demonstrated strengths across UOW’s Key Indicators of Success:

UOW Liverpool School Leaver Scholarship 

The UOW Liverpool School Leaver Scholarship is to support and encourage students who want to study at the Liverpool campus in 2027.

Future Students are required to be completing their schooling (either HSC or IB Diploma) in 2026 and have a Bachelor offer for the University of °µÍø½ûÇø Liverpool campus through Early Admission, to be considered for this scholarship. Applicants will be contacted directly to submit an application for this scholarship based on their Early Admission application.

Criteria assessed will include; the applicant's strengths across UOW's key indicators of success; academic readiness, motivation and passion, communication & collaboration and planning and persistence; and the applicant's answer to "Please tell us why you would like to study at the UOW Campus in Liverpool and how this scholarship will help you to do so".

Recipients of the Scholarship must enrol full-time in a degree at the UOW Liverpool Campus in 2027.

Value: $5,000 for 1st year of study

Country to Coast Scholarship

The Country to Coast Scholarship is exclusive to high school students who applied to UOW via Early Admission in 2026. The Country to Coast Scholarship is automatically made available to Early Admission offer holders from high schools located in defined regional and remote areas across NSW. Select Indigenous Access Program (IAP) offer holders will also be considered eligible.

UOW Liverpool Non-School Leaver Scholarship

The UOW Liverpool Non-School Leaver Scholarship is to support and encourage non-school leavers who want to study at the Liverpool campus in 2027.

To be eligible, applicants must have an offer to study a Bachelor degree (excluding Bachelor of Nursing) at UOW's Liverpool campus and were not enrolled in High School or undertook the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or International Baccalaureate (IB) in 2026.

Criteria assessed will include; the applicant's strengths across UOW's key indicators of success; academic readiness, motivation and passion, communication and collaboration and planning and persistence. 

Successful applicants must remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points across the academic year for the duration of this scholarship.

The scholarship will be offered across two rounds for 2027 commencers.

Autumn intake: Applications close 8 January 2027

Spring intake: Applications close 1 June 2027

TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship

The TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship aims to encourage students to take the next step in their education, supporting the transition from TAFE to UOW.

Applicants must be commencing an undergraduate course (excluding a Bachelor of Nursing) at UOW in 2027, and must have completed either a Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or the Tertiary Preparation course at TAFE NSW within 12 months of commencing a Bachelor degree at UOW.

Criteria assessed will include; the applicant's strengths across UOW's key indicators of success; academic readiness, motivation and passion, communication and collaboration, and planning and persistence.

Successful applicants must remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit points across the academic year for the duration of this scholarship.

The scholarship will be offered across two rounds for 2027 commencers:

UOW Equity Scholarship

UOW Equity Scholarships are available for students who are experiencing financial and other educational disadvantages, because we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed in higher education.

Value: $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000

Kimberley Livingstone Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Dr Kimberley Livingstone was a PhD candidate with the School of Education, completing a PhD across both the School of Education and Nursing on the topic of 'Exploring the Support of Registered Nurse Preceptors in Supervising Nursing Students through Work-Integrated Learning Partnerships'. Dr Livingstone was also a lecturer in the School of Nursing.

In 2024, Dr Kimberley Livingstone, sadly passed away after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis and was awarded a posthumous PhD in April 2024. In honor of Dr Livingstone, an annual $5,000 scholarship has been established to award a student commencing their first year in 2027 in Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) at UOW.

The scholarship will be awarded to three (3) students who have demonstrated need such as financial or social challenges. There are a range of criteria that are looked at in determining this need such as low income, family background, living in a rural or isolated region, having a permanent disability, being a recent migrant from a non-English speaking country, and Indigenous Australians. Applicants must submit an application via  to be considered for this scholarship.

The Ray McGill Scholarship for Indigenous Students

The Ray McGill Scholarship for Indigenous students has been established by UOW alumnus, Mr Ray McGill, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2007. Ray has established the scholarship to provide access to further education and opportunities to a student who may not otherwise be able to afford to attend University. 

The Ray McGill Scholarship will support one (1) student commencing their first (1st) year of any degree at the University of °µÍø½ûÇø. The successful applicant must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and must demonstrate financial need.

Value: First year $2,000 p.a for 3 years

The George Alexander Foundation Scholarship

The George Alexander Foundation has an emphasis on helping talented young people, especially those from regional and rural areas to undertake and excel in higher education. The Scholarship Program forms the core of the Foundation’s work.

Value: $8,000 p.a.

St. George Leagues Club Scholarship

UOW Ramsay Scholarship

The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation has generously donated funding for up to 30 Scholarships with a value of up to $32,000 per annum ($20,000, and up to an additional $12,000 potentially available for eligible regional and remote students)* maximum of 3 years.

°µÍø½ûÇø Chapter No. 59 Order of the Eastern Star Nursing Opportunity Scholarship

First year Bachelor of Nursing students at UOW's °µÍø½ûÇø Campus are encouraged to apply for this scholarship, valued at $21,000. 

If you are a first (1st) year Bachelor of Nursing student studying at the UOW °µÍø½ûÇø Campus or Shoalhaven Campus, you originate from or have strong demonstrated ties to the Illawarra region (ISLHD), and you have financial, social, and/or educational disadvantages, please apply.

The °µÍø½ûÇø Chapter No. 59 Order of the Eastern Star Opportunity Scholarship is funded by a group of like-minded friends who seek to give back to the community and enrich the lives of others. This scholarship is designed to support the next generation of front-line Nursing professionals.

Applicants are asked to complete a UOW scholarship application package, a UAC Equity Scholarship online application, a one page statement outlining your connection to the Illawarra Region and how the scholarship will assist with your Nursing career ambitions.
