Overview

Looking for a career that combines science, practical skills, and human connection? The Bachelor of Nursing prepares you to become a Registered Nurse through a combination of scientific study, hands-on learning, and professional placements from your first year.

If you're interested in working with people and want a career with strong employment prospects, this degree offers a pathway into one of Australia's most diverse health professions.

You'll develop the knowledge, practical skills, and clinical judgement needed to provide safe, evidence-based care while understanding the social, cultural, and ethical factors that influence health and healthcare. A strong focus on critical thinking means you'll learn how to assess situations, make informed decisions, and respond to the needs of different patients and communities.

A major focus of the degree is learning through practice, including 840 hours of professional placement.

You'll graduate ready to transition into practice as a Registered Nurse across hospitals, community health, mental health, aged care, schools, primary healthcare, and correctional health.

See the for more information.

From your first year, you’ll build professional nursing skills through a combination of clinical laboratories and workplace learning.

Clinical laboratories are designed to reflect healthcare environments, allowing you to practise patient assessment, medication administration, communication, and clinical reasoning before applying these skills in professional settings.

Your placements increase in complexity throughout the degree, exposing you to a variety of healthcare settings and patient populations. Working alongside Registered Nurses and clinical facilitators helps you develop confidence, professional judgement, and an understanding of contemporary nursing practices.

You'll learn from academics with extensive clinical experience across areas including critical care, mental health, and primary healthcare. Many maintain close links with healthcare practice, bringing current industry knowledge and real-world perspectives into your learning.

As you progress through the degree, you'll move from foundational studies in bioscience, health, and patient assessment into areas such as pharmacology, pathophysiology, chronic care, mental health, and emergency care.

In your final year, you'll focus on the transition from nursing student to Registered Nurse, developing professional confidence, career readiness, and an understanding of workplace expectations.

You may also broaden your experience through community initiatives, international programs, networking activities, student groups, and other co-curricular opportunities that support your professional and personal development.
