Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship

We have an exciting opportunity for students undertaking research in gender equality who need funding to turn their research goals into reality – the Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to students from all Australian universities. 

The Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship was established to honour and continue the work of Dr Clare Burton, a leading researcher, public sector administrator, academic, consultant and writer on employment equity. The gift aims to helps students complete research in women and equality in all spheres of endeavour including (but not limited to) employment, education, health, communications, engineering, and science.

Scholarship amount

The student will receive a $10,000 one-off payment as a research allowance. 

Application process

To apply for the Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship, you will need to complete and by Friday 31 July 2026.

As part of your application, you will be required to provide:

  • a copy of your academic transcript and your Confirmation of Enrolment
  • a summary of your research proposal
  • an outline of your research background
  • a written response to the selection criteria
  • contact details for two referees

Eligibility requirements

To apply for the scholarship, you must be:

  • either an Australian citizen, permanent resident, permanent humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand citizen
  • a current research student at an Australian university, enrolled either full-time or part-time in a research degree (i.e. Doctor of Philosophy, professional doctorate or Master of Philosophy)
  • pursing research where the major piece of work is focused on gender equity.  This encompasses women and equality in all spheres of endeavor including (but not limited to) employment, education, health, communications, engineering and science.
  • have completed at least the first milestone of your research degree
